Job summary

Utica Community School District is seeking a School Aged Child Care Assistant (SACC Assistant) for multiple Sterling Heights locations. The role supports students ages 5-12 in a school-year program running from 6:30am-9:00am and 3:00pm-6:00pm, with duties including supervision, positive discipline, and family communication.

Starting immediately, the position requires 18+, background checks, CPR/first aid, and a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Able to pass a criminal history and childcare background check
• Current CPR and first aid certification (maintained annually)
• Childcare experience preferred
• Evidence of teamwork, interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
• Evidence of accurate record-keeping and confidentiality

Responsibilities

• Provide a welcoming and friendly classroom environment for children, parents, visitors and the school community
• Assist and supervise children during activities; use positive discipline techniques
• Communicate effectively with parents and provide regular updates to families
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for children
• Support developmentally appropriate activities for ages 5-12
• Check children into the SACC program and maintain staff-to-child ratios
• Ensure classroom appearance and cleanliness
• Observe, record and report significant behavior to SACC Director or parents
• Adjust daily schedule as needed with changing ratios
• Be available for extra hours during early dismissals or breaks
• Present a positive and professional image at all times

• Must be available for additional hours when the elementary schools have early dismissals or during mid-winter and spring breaks.
• Assume responsibility in an emergency or if Director is absent

• Frequent lifting, carrying or holding children up to 60 lbs
• Repetitively bend, stretch and stoop
• Work with children on the floor
• Fully maintain sight and sound child supervision
