Job summary

GFL Industries is seeking a detail-oriented scale operator at our landfill/ transfer station in Georgia. You will weigh in/out trucks, issue permits, and support accurate customer billing with reports for clients and management.

Responsibilities include verifying haul accuracy, dispatching disposal instructions, and keeping management informed on community information. Daily scale testing and environmental compliance are also required.

Qualifications

• GED or high school diploma required.
• 1–3 months related experience and/or training preferred.
• Experience with customer service preferred.

Job description

Responsible for the scaling of all trucks that enter the landfill or transfer station while providing efficient, courteous customer service to GFL's internal and external customers.

Hours: M-F 4am-8:30am

Key Responsibilities

• Weigh in and out all trucks that enter the landfill or transfer station
• Set up new trucks and issue truck permits
• Provide accurate and efficient information for customer billing to include reports to customers and management
• Verify accuracy of hauls and disposal for payment of third-party truck hauling
• Accurately dispatch proper instructions regarding disposal of special waste with operators and Operations Manager.
• Keep landfill management apprised on any community information regarding the landfill.
• Test the scales daily for accuracy.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
• One to three months related experience and/or training.
• Experience with customer service preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Physical/Mental Demands

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, talk, and hear.
• Visual Requirements: include close vision and distance vision.
• Possess ability to occasionally lift/move up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions

• Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles.
• Noise level is moderate to loud.
