Job summary

Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic in Des Moines seeks a part-time respiratory therapy student to assist under supervision. You will support basic respiratory procedures, monitor oxygen therapy, and help with equipment preparation and documentation.

Responsibilities include assisting with oximetry, spirometry, CPAP/BiPAP monitoring, and collaborating with licensed therapists to implement care plans. Strong English, organizational skills, and ability to work under pressure are required.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program with current participation in respiratory classes and clinical rotations.
• Must have knowledge of basic respiratory therapy procedures and have documented competency validation.
• Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) within 30 days of hire and every 2 years thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic respiratory therapy procedures under supervision, including oxygen, aerosol therapy, hyperinflation therapy, incentive spirometry, airway care, suctioning, chest physiotherapy, and EKG.
• Performs diagnostic procedures such as oximetry, capnography, arterial puncture, and pulmonary function testing.
• May participate in monitoring CPAP, BiPAP, and mechanical ventilators.
• Assists physicians and nurses with respiratory care plans and implements physician orders.
