Daybreak is seeking a part-time Residential Specialist to support our mission of assisting Miami Valley's homeless and vulnerable youth. The role involves providing services that promote safety, stability, and well-being, contributing to a promising future for all youth.
Hours: 3rd Shift, every other weekend - 16 hours. Fridays and Saturdays, 11pm-7am. The hourly rate is $16.25, with opportunities for additional shifts.
About Us: Established in 1975 in Dayton, Ohio, Daybreak started as an emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth. Today, it operates the Miami Valley's only 24-hour crisis hotline and emergency youth shelter, along with outreach, prevention, transitional housing, life-skills education, and follow-up services for youth.
Position Responsibilities: The Residential Specialist will respond to calls on the crisis hotline and assist youth who visit the shelter. Responsibilities include engaging clients, providing crisis intervention and stabilization, conducting intake and exit interviews, and offering guidance and coaching. The role involves connecting youth with community resources related to education, employment, housing, health, and social services. Supervision and participation in scheduled activities such as groups and chores are also required. Accurate documentation of all interactions and activities is essential to meet agency standards and goals.
Position Requirements: A High School Diploma or GED is required.
Daybreak ensures compliance with all licensing requirements and employee fitness for duty. Post-offer, candidates must sign a background check release and pass pre-employment testing before starting.
Background Check: The organization conducts criminal background checks, including fingerprinting, and additional checks such as the National Sex Offender Registry, OIG, Nurse Aide Registry, SAM, and DODD databases. A Motor Vehicle Report may also be required.
Pre-employment Testing: Tests include a tuberculin skin test or chest x-ray and a urine drug screening, at Daybreak's expense. Failure to meet employment criteria based on these tests or background checks may result in job offer withdrawal or postponement.
Applicants with certain criminal convictions within the past 5 years or who refuse fingerprinting may have their employment offers withdrawn. Compliance with SB 38 and Ohio Revised Code disqualifier rules is also required.
