Job summary

Penn State University’s Mills Lab in the College of Medicine seeks a part-time Research Support to assist in studies of stem cell recruitment in tumorigenesis. Responsibilities include breeding mice, harvesting tissue, and conducting analyses for mRNA, protein, and histology.

A strong background in molecular or cell biology is required, with experience presenting scientific findings. This position offers up to 24 hours per week, Mon–Fri, with occasional weekends; background checks are required

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in molecular or cell biology or related field; 8–10 years laboratory experience.
• Record of experience presenting and publishing scientific findings
• At least 2 years of experience working with mouse colonies for research, including handling, propagation, and maintenance

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The College of Medicine, Department of Molecular and Precision Medicine, Mills lab is seeking applicants for part-time job of Research Support.

Job duties to include:

• Conduct studies focused on recruitment of stem cells in tumorigenesis, including investigating the signaling mechanisms that are involved in how cells change state in programs such as paligenosis
• Assist with mouse breeding to sustain colonies for these experiments
• Harvest and prepare tissue for mRNA, protein, and histological analyses

Requirements, qualifications, and/or competencies:

• Bachelor's degree in molecular or cell biology, or related field 8-10 years laboratory experience working in cell biology research
• Record of experience presenting and publishing scientific findings
• At least 2 years of experience working with mouse colonies for research, including handling, propagation, and maintenance

Schedule: Up to 24 hrs/week Monday - Friday, with occasional weekend hours [List anticipated hours per week and any other schedule expectations, as applicable]

Compensation: The starting rate for this job is $16.00.
