POSITION SPECIFICS

Research Technologist – iPSC Cell Culture and Genome Engineering College of Medicine - Hershey, PA

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Technologist to join a cardiovascular research laboratory focused on human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models of cardiac diseases inherited. The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing and maintaining iPSC cultures. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge stem cell technologies, genome engineering, and translational cardiovascular research in a collaborative academic environment.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance, expansion, cryopreservation, and quality control of human iPSC lines.
  • Differentiate iPSCs into cardiomyocytes and other relevant cell types following established protocols.
  • Isolate and expand single-cell clones and perform molecular validation using PCR, Sanger sequencing, and related techniques.
  • Conduct molecular and cellular assays including DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, Western blotting, immunofluorescence staining, and flow cytometry as needed.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, experimental documentation, and electronic databases.
  • Prepare reagents, maintain cell culture supplies, and ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures.
  • Assist in data analysis, figure preparation, and presentation of research findings.
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and contribute to collaborative research projects.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative research team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Experience culturing human iPSCs or embryonic stem cells.
  • Experience with stem cell differentiation, particularly cardiac differentiation.
  • Familiarity with PCR, cloning, DNA sequencing, and molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, or next-generation sequencing is desirable.
  • Prior experience in cardiovascular, stem cell, or genetic disease research.

Research Environment

The successful candidate will work closely with trainees and collaborators while receiving mentorship in cutting-edge stem cell and genome editing technologies. This position provides outstanding preparation for graduate school, medical school, physician-scientist training, or careers in biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $40,608.00 - $58,836.00.
