Job summary

Kilgore College seeks a Ranger Roadshow Driver to safely operate the Roadshow truck and tow the trailer to college and community events, including parades. You will hook/unhook the trailer, position it at locations, and assist with setup and takedown of displays.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Experience driving a truck while towing a trailer required.
  • Completion of the College’s drop-trailer towing training with an approved CDL instructor is required prior to independently operating the Ranger Roadshow truck and trailer.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the Ranger Roadshow truck and tow the trailer to events and parades.
  • Safely hook and unhook the Roadshow trailer and check connections.
  • Position, park, and secure the truck and trailer at event locations.
  • Assist with setup and takedown of equipment and displays.
  • Perform basic pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report issues promptly.
  • Ensure security of vehicle and equipment during transport.
  • Maintain professional interactions with College staff and the public.
  • Follow safety policies and College vehicle procedures.
  • Read and respond to College emails promptly.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Summary:

The Ranger Roadshow Driver is responsible for safely operating the Ranger Roadshow truck and towing the Roadshow drop trailer to college and community events, including parades. This position is responsible for safely hooking and unhooking the trailer, positioning the trailer at event locations, and assisting with the setup and takedown of the Ranger Roadshow equipment and displays. The position requires safe vehicle operation, attention to equipment and trailer security, and professional interaction with college employees and members of the public.

Position responsibilities:
  • Drive the Ranger Roadshow truck and safely tow the Roadshow drop trailer to and from scheduled events, parades, and other approved locations
  • Safely hook and unhook the Roadshow trailer, including connecting and checking the hitch, safety chains, electrical connections, and other towing equipment
  • Position, park, and secure the truck and trailer at event locations
  • Assist with setup and takedown of the Roadshow trailer, equipment, displays, signage, and other event materials
  • Perform basic pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer and report maintenance, safety, or equipment concerns promptly
  • Ensure the truck, trailer, equipment, and materials are properly secured before transportation
  • Follow all applicable traffic laws, safety procedures, and College policies while operating College vehicles and equipment
  • Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when representing the College at community events, parades, and other activities
  • Assist College staff with event-related activities as needed.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and general appearance of the Ranger Roadshow truck and trailer.
  • Read and respond to all College email communications in a timely manner
  • Other duties assigned.
Minimum Position Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required
  • Must meet all College requirements for operating College-owned vehicles
  • Experience driving a truck while towing a trailer required
  • Ability to safely hook, unhook, maneuver, back, park, and tow a trailer
  • Ability to understand and follow vehicle, towing, and workplace safety procedures
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment when transporting College equipment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, or other times as required by scheduled events and parades
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with College employees, students, event organizers, and members of the public
  • Successful completion of the College’s drop-trailer towing training with an approved CDL instructor is required prior to independently operating the Ranger Roadshow truck and trailer

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Work is performed both inside a vehicle and outdoors at various College and community event locations
  • Position requires extended periods of driving and the ability to safely enter and exit the truck and access the trailer
  • Position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and handling equipment during event setup and takedown
  • Employee must be able to safely lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
  • Work may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain
  • Position may involve exposure to traffic, moving vehicles, trailers, equipment, crowds, and other conditions associated with public events and parades
  • Must be able to safely maneuver, connect, disconnect, and secure the truck, trailer, and related equipment
Safety:
  • Operate the Ranger Roadshow truck and trailer in accordance with applicable laws, College policies, and established safety procedures
  • Conduct appropriate safety checks before operating or towing College vehicles and equipment
  • Ensure the truck, trailer, and event equipment are properly secured before transportation and during setup
  • Promptly report vehicle, trailer, equipment, or safety concerns to the Director Procurement Services.
  • Use appropriate safety practices during loading, unloading, setup, takedown, and operation of the Ranger Roadshow
  • Create and support a safe environment for employees, students, event participants, and members of the public
Salary Range and Benefits:
  • The rate of pay is up to $10-$12 per hour depending on experience for up to 19 hours per week.

Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program.

All full-time positions are located in Kilgore, TX. No fully work from home positions are available at this time. All employees must be available to physically present to work on the Kilgore, TX or Longview, TX Campus. Some Part-Time and Adjunct positions may be offsite but the candidate MUST live in the State of Texas.
