Job summary

The East Butler YMCA Preschool is seeking a warm, energetic Preschool Assistant Teacher for a part-time role with 20-30 hours per week. Shifts are Monday–Friday, between 6:30 AM and 6:00 PM, with starting pay of $15.00 per hour.

You will support the Lead Teacher in creating developmentally appropriate activities and a nurturing classroom environment. This position is ideal for someone currently in childcare or looking to begin a rewarding path in early childhood education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Prior experience working with young children preferred.
• Enthusiasm for early childhood education and patience with varying developmental levels.
• Strong verbal communication and teamwork skills.
• Reliable, positive attitude and willingness to follow program policies.
• Minimum age 18 CPR, First Aid, Communicable Disease, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications, or readiness to obtain within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Support children during daily routines, activities, and structured lessons.
• Assist in preparing and delivering creative, age-appropriate lesson plans.
• Encourage social, emotional, and language development through positive interactions.
• Keep the classroom organized, clean, and welcoming.
• Help supervise indoor and outdoor play to ensure safety at all times.
• Communicate respectfully with families and help build strong relationships.
• Participate in trainings, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.
