Job summary

Fort Bend County Libraries in Richmond, TX seeks a Part-time Copy Cataloger to perform copy cataloging of library materials in all formats using OCLC and the Polaris ILS. Responsibilities include locating MARC records, matching items to catalog entries, and editing records to meet local standards.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree, 1 year cataloging experience with OCLC, and knowledge of MARC and the Dewey Decimal system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required; MLS from an ALA-accredited school preferred.
• One year cataloging experience using OCLC bibliographic database.
• Experience with Dewey Decimal Classification system.
• Knowledge of MARC records and an integrated library system.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs copy cataloging of library materials in all formats using OCLC and the Polaris Integrated Library System (ILS).
• Searches OCLC for MARC records, locates and matches records to items needing cataloging and edits records to conform to local standards.
• May assist in local database management including deleting files and holdings in both the library catalog and the OCLC database.
• Processes materials as necessary.
