Job summary

UpBeat Music and Arts in Chicago is seeking a Part-Time Youth Piano Instructor to guide students aged 6 and up in private and small-group piano lessons, theory, technique, and composition.

You will work 1 to 4 evenings per week, 3:00pm to 8:00pm, at 4900 N Elston. Training provided; no minimum teaching hours required; passionate educators encouraged to apply.

This role emphasizes mentoring, classroom activities, and building confidence through music.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in piano performance and music theory.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Passion for working with children.
• Previous teaching experience in music education or summer camps preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach individual piano lessons.
• Teach theory, technique, performance, and composition in individual and group settings.
• Use exercises and games to motivate students.
• Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress.
• Plan and use instructional strategies.
• Co-teach a piano-based music curriculum.
• Participate in planning meetings.
• Support curriculum design and student/parent feedback.
• Coordinate and support program activities.
• Enforce student discipline when necessary.
