Qualifications

• Associate degree from a PTA program meeting New York licensure requirements.
• Clinical education or experience providing therapeutic exercise and mobility training.
• Current New York State license and registration as a PTA.
• Knowledge of physical therapy treatment techniques and gait training.
• Ability to safely implement a treatment plan under a licensed PT.

Responsibilities

• Provides physical therapy interventions under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist and in accordance with the established plan of care.
• Assists patients in therapeutic exercise, transfer training, balance and coordination activities, gait training, and ambulation programs.
• Observes patients’ status, functional needs, and response to treatment and communicates changes or need for reassessment.
• Instructs patients and caregivers in safe use and care of mobility devices and equipment.
• Maintains treatment areas and equipment in a clean, organized condition.
• Adapts instruction to meet language, cognitive, physical, and learning needs and follows safety procedures.
• Participates in meetings and quality-improvement activities supporting patient care.
• Complies with regulations and pursues ongoing education to maintain knowledge.
