Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current Laboratory Assistant or Medical Technician license through Nevada DHHS or eligible within 9 months.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers within 90 days of employment.
• Phlebotomy Technician certification (preferred).
• Associate’s or higher degree in biology or chemistry (preferred).
• Unit: Emergency Department (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Identifies patients and collects blood samples for specified tests.
• Transports specimens to the testing laboratory with proper labeling.
• Receives, identifies, accessioning, processing, and transporting specimens.
• Provides instructions to patients regarding specimen collection and preparation.
• Performs specimen accessioning in the Laboratory Information System with correct patient data.
• Performs pre-analytical specimen processing including centrifugation and aliquoting.
• Communicates with health care providers about specimen collection and test results.
• Prioritizes processing for STAT, ASAP, time-critical, and routine tests.
• Assists with maintenance, decontamination, QA activities, inventory management, and data collection for quality indicators.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Laboratory Assistant or Medical Technician license (Nevada) or eligible within 9 months

AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
