Job summary

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Part-Time Performing Arts Instructor at Tom Taylor Family YMCA in Gig Harbor, WA. The role provides leadership and instruction for students, ensuring a quality experience for both students and parents.

Ideal candidates have 5 years of formal performing arts training (or equivalent), 1–2 years teaching experience, and the ability to teach beginners to intermediate levels across ages from preschool to adult.

Qualifications

• Must pass Background and Reference checks per WA state law.
• Committed to valuing diversity and promoting inclusion.
• Able to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day and other required trainings.
• 5 years of formal training in performing arts or comparable experience.
• 1–2 years of experience as a teacher/teaching assistant.
• Able to instruct beginning and intermediate level classes.
• Willing to teach ages preschool through adult.
• Belief that arts should be open to everyone regardless of ability or finances.

Responsibilities

• Follow/Implement YMCA Quality Standards and Well Being dimensions in Youth Programming and Staff Development.
• Create lesson plans with progression aligned to ages and abilities; reflect YMCA values.
• Ensure materials and content are developmentally appropriate and align with YMCA mission.
• Provide lesson plans, supply lists, and budget to Arts Director as requested.
• Participate in performances, Arts Week events, and YMCA events as assigned.
• Communicate program information and student progress clearly.
