Job summary

YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties, located at Tom Taylor Family YMCA in Gig Harbor, WA, seeks a Part-Time Performing Arts Instructor to lead and inspire students in performing arts while ensuring a high-quality experience for families. The role involves creating progressive lesson plans, aligning with YMCA values, and delivering age-appropriate content.

The position requires 5 years of arts training or equivalent experience, 1–2 years teaching, and the ability to work with diverse age groups

Qualifications

• Must pass background and reference checks as per WA Fair Chance Act.
• Commitment to diversity and inclusive learning environment.
• Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, plus other trainings.
• 5 years of formal training in performing arts or comparable experience.
• 1–2 years of experience as a teacher or teaching assistant.
• Ability to teach beginner and intermediate levels.
• Able to teach ages preschool through adult; positive attitude with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Follow/Implement Association Quality Standards and 9 Dimensions of Well Being into Youth Programming and Staff Development.
• Create class lesson plans with progression aligned to ages and abilities and YMCA values.
• Ensure materials and content are developmentally appropriate and reflect the YMCA mission.
• Provide lesson plans, supply lists, and budgets to Arts Director as requested.
• Participate in performances, Y Arts Week events and other YMCA events.
• Communicate program information and student progress effectively.
