Job summary

The Cambridge School of Culinary Arts is seeking a part-time Pastry Chef Instructor to coach students in Professional Pastry Programs at our Cambridge campus. You will teach fundamentals, French pastry techniques, and advanced presentations while guiding students in professional kitchen practices.

Ideal candidates have at least five years in pastry/baking and two years of teaching, plus strong communication and mentoring abilities.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years pastry arts/baking experience at a restaurant, bakery, catering company, commissary, or in other culinary capacity
• Minimum of 2 years culinary teaching experience
• General knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Must be diplomatic, patient, prompt, creative, flexible, fun, thrive in organized chaos, be able to manage, groom; and mentor individuals with different levels of cooking experience
• Willingness to follow CSCA policies, procedures, and education philosophy
• Ability to communicate effectively with others, orally and in writing
• Candidates must be able to pass a CORI background check

Responsibilities

• Manage class size of up to 15 students
• Lecture on class material with PowerPoint; operate laptop and HDMI setup
• Assign daily recipes; manage class production and assess student recipes
• Issue and grade quizzes; report grades to Director of Education
• Provide verbal assessments of student skill level daily and at midterm
• Take daily attendance and report to Academic Supervisor/Director of Education
• Attend quarterly faculty meetings
• Proctor midterm and final practicums and exams
• Tutor at-risk students
• Supervise students during ingredient check, pantry stock, and kitchen cleanup
• Set up kitchen and lecture space; perform pre-class inventory
• Maintain safety and cleanliness standards; sanitation throughout the class
