Job summary

The City of Saint Charles is hiring a Part-time Park Ranger in the Parks & Recreation Department. This seasonal role patrols park grounds, assists with traffic regulation, and supports safety programs under supervision.

Tattoos must be covered and certain head/neck/hand tattoos are not allowed, per policy. Qualified applicants will have a High School Diploma or GED, Missouri POST certification, US citizenship, and First Aid/CPR.

Qualifications

• First Aid/CPR certification required.
• Regis and MULES Certification within 6 months.
• Valid driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation.

Responsibilities

• Patrol park grounds and facilities to protect patrons and facilities; regulate traffic and issue citations.
• Apprehend and arrest violators; coordinate with other law enforcement and City departments.
• Assist in park interpretive and safety programs; develop public relations materials.
• Assist in risk management and safety program administration.
• Provide a safe environment during events and assist with information gathering and record keeping.

Job Title: Part- Time Park Ranger

Salary: $20.00/ hourly

Status: Seasonal/Part-time

The City of Saint Charles Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting for part-time Park Rangers. This position is part-time and is not scheduled to work more than 1,499 hours per year.

The purpose of this position is to assist with administering park patrol, investigation and traffic regulation activities, under the direction of Chief Park Ranger or Ranger Sergeant on Duty.

Prior to accepting employment, applicants should ensure tattoos/brands that would be visible, arms or legs, while wearing uniform apparel inclusive of short sleeve shirts and/or shorts, as well as civilian attire, are approved by the Director of Parks and Recreation using the form included within the application packet. Tattoos/brands on the head, neck, hands are not allowed. The Department reserves the right to require any tattoo to be covered (long sleeves) or removed (at employees expense) as a condition of employment.

The testing and selection process includes oral interviews, background investigation, drug test, pre-employment polygraph examination and psychological evaluation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Patrols park grounds and facilities to protect park patrons and park facilities; promotes outdoor education and regulates traffic flow. Provides assistance and direction to park patrons. Investigates suspicious activity. Directs traffic and ensures traffic safety. Issues traffic and ordinance citation notices.
• Apprehends and arrests criminal violators. Coordinates patrol activities with other law enforcement personnel, City departments, and emergency response personnel.
• Assist in developing, evaluating and conducting park interpretive and safety programs. Assists in developing and implementing Park public relations programs. Develops public relations materials.
• Assists in planning and administration of Department risk management/safety programs. Implements approved risk management/safety programs.
• Assist in providing a safe and welcoming environment during special events.
• Assists in Park Ranger information gathering and record keeping.
• Prepares incident/accident reports.
• Testifies in court as needed.
• Assists Police Department or other outside agencies as necessary.
• Conducts inspections.
• Assist securing Park grounds and facilities nightly.
• Carries out all duties in conformance with Federal, State, County, and City laws and ordinances, and in compliance with departmental rules, regulations and code of conduct.
• Consults with and exchanges information with officers, the City Attorney, County Prosecutor's Office and others as required to ensure timely and effective prosecution of cases.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Certified peace officer by State of Missouri Department of Public Safety; (POST Certified)
• Prior law enforcement experience, prior supervisor experience, post-secondary education in parks/ recreation, natural science, public relations or criminal justice preferred; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Ability to obtain by date of hire a valid drivers' license without record of suspension or revocation in any state.
• US Citizenship as required by section 590.030 of RSMo.
• Minimum 21 years of age at the time of employment.
• First Aid/CPR certification required.
• MO POST CEU: 24 hours annually in compliance with CLEE standards. Department CEU: 16 CEU a year for skill development.
• Regis and MULES Certification required within 6 months.
