Job summary

Cristo Rey Church in Lansing is seeking a Part-time Accountant/Bookkeeper. The role supports the Pastor and oversees financial matters for the parish, including accounting, reporting, and payroll. This position is 12-18 hours per week and reports directly to the Pastor.

The ideal candidate has fund-based accounting experience in a church/non-profit, with a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. Proficiency in Parishsoft, PDS, and MS Office is preferred; Spanish knowledge is a bonus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience, with coursework in math and accounting required.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Access; Parishsoft and PDS experience preferred.
• Attention to detail and precision in account reconciliation and report generation.
• Good interpersonal skills and a commitment to teamwork and support of Church ministries.
• Commitment to confidentiality regarding all parish financial records.
• Demonstrates Christian faith and commitment to the mission and wellbeing of the Catholic Church.
• Knowledge of conversational Spanish would be a helpful advantage for being hired but is not absolutely essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepare interim reports, general ledgers and other financial reports.
• Cash flow management
• Manages relationship with the credit union and the Diocese in regard to management of accounts and problem solving in regard to financial matters.
• Manages bookkeeping and general ledger functions, including payables and receivables and all other parish revenue and expenses.
• Maintains parish operational and financial records.
• Ensures all federal, state and local taxes are paid in accordance with laws and/or regulations.
• Manages payroll and payment of salaries and benefits.
• Participates in annual review of job performance.
