Job summary

Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 is seeking a part-time paraeducator for emotional support at LS - Lampeter-Strasburg High School. The role runs 5.50 hours per day, Monday through Friday, 185 days per year, from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm, with a minimum starting wage of $20.00 per hour.

The paraeducator will provide instructional support under the supervision of the Special Education program supervisor, meeting credential requirements or alternatives within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must meet one of four qualifications (credential, 2 years postsecondary with 48 credits, associate degree or higher, or other approved assessment).
• Annual staff development evidence required: 20 hours per school year.
• Verbal communication skills and ability to follow directions.
• Basic computer skills: data entry, internet/email, word processing.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support to teachers and students in special education settings.
• Under supervision of the Supervisor of Special Education, assist as assigned by classroom staff.
• Follow district policies and maintain a safe, supportive classroom environment.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Theparaeducatorsassignedtospecialeducationclassesorprogramsprovideinstructionalsupporttotheteacher (instructional leader) and students and are under the general supervision of the program Supervisor of Special Education.

KNOWLEDGE&SKILLREQUIREMENTS:

EffectiveJuly1,2010–Alsomustmeetoneofthefollowingfourqualifications:

• HavecompletedtheCredentialofCompetencyforSpecialEducationParaeducatorsthroughthePA Department of Education (or be willing to complete within 6 months of employment). A copy of the credential must be submitted within 30 days of hire or when received from PDE.
  • Havecompletedatleast2yearsofpostsecondarystudywithaminimumof48credithours.Copyof transcript required within 30 days of employment.
  • Possessanassociatedgreeorhigher.Copyofdegreeortranscriptsrequiredwithin30daysof employment.
  • Meetarigorousstandardofqualityasdemonstratedthroughanapprovedformofassessmentwithin6 months of employment.

AND

As required by the PA Department of Education: Each school year, provide evidence of 20 hours of staff developmentactivitiesrelatedtoposition.Pro-rationwillapplybasedondateofhirewithintheschoolyear.

The ability to physically restrain students in emotional stress by using the Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI),SafeCrisisManagement(SCM)orQualityBehaviorSupports(QBS)method,dependingonprogramneed, for which training will be provided.

Mustbeabletocontextuallyrun/sprintafter/toanelopingchildandbeabletohelpalearneroffthefloorshould they drop to the floor under their own power.
