Job summary

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) for the Recuperative Care/Medical Respite Program in Denver. This role requires weekend and holiday rotations and includes differential shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Provides safe delivery of patient care in routine and emergency situations, including vital signs and assessments.
  • Collaborates with multi-disciplinary health care teams.
  • Performs check-ins for patients and supports efficient clinic operations.
  • Obtains specimens and performs laboratory tests (urinalysis, HCG, hematocrit, glucose).
  • Performs venipuncture and prepares specimens for transport to the lab.
  • Administers immunizations and enters data into CIIS.
  • Contacts clients for missed appointments and chronic care follow-up as requested.
  • Answers patient assistance line and handles calls within MA scope.
  • Assists with administrative tasks and maintains clinic files.

Medical Assistant (MA) – Recuperative Care/Medical Respite Program

This role is part of the Recuperative Care/Medical Respite program and requires weekend and holiday rotations. It includes evening, overnight, holiday, and weekend shift differentials. Candidates must complete the internal credentialing and privileging process prior to a start date.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provides for the safe delivery of patient care, in routine and emergency situations, within the scope of education and training, such as taking vital signs, and performing patient assessments.
  • Collaborates with other members of the multi‑disciplinary health care teams including medical assistants, primary care medical providers, behavioral health providers, psychiatric providers, peer specialists, dental assistants and hygienists, pharmacists, patient navigators, case managers, client access representatives, inventory and lab coordinators, and nurse educator.
  • Performs check‑ins for all patients and works closely with the multi‑disciplinary healthcare team to achieve efficient patient flow and effective use of clinic resources.
  • Obtains specimens and performs laboratory tests including urinalysis, urine HCG, hematocrits, glucoses, etc.
  • Performs venipuncture and prepares blood and other specimens accurately for transport to the central lab, processes labs as needed after‑hours or at satellite sites, and performs pulse oximetry, peak flow analysis, EKG, audioscope and other screening tests.
  • Administers immunizations per clinic protocol including entering data into the CIIS (Colorado Immunization Information System) database.
  • Contacts clients in need of follow‑up for missed appointments or other chronic, complex care management outreach as requested.
  • Answers the patient assistance line, handles live incoming calls & returns voicemails, handles all questions within MA scope and transfers calls appropriately to other disciplines PRN.
  • Assists with other administrative and health operation tasks such as copying, faxing, word processing, data entry and maintains clinic files that meet legal, auditing and grantor requirements.
  • Assists providers and nurses with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care including chaperoning paps, preparing procedure trays and other support as needed.
  • Works evenings or weekend shifts as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Summary
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant program preferred.
  • Certification in basic life support (CPR).
  • Bi‑lingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required (may be waived with experience).

$20.64 – $24.28 per hour, depending on total relevant years of experience.
