Job summary

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is seeking a Medical Assistant to support our Recuperative Care/Medical Respite program, providing patient care, vital signs, specimens, immunizations, and administrative duties within a multidisciplinary team.

The role requires a HS diploma, completion of a MA/EMT/CNA program, CPR, and a valid driver’s license; bilingual English/Spanish preferred. We offer comprehensive benefits and loan repayment opportunities through NURSE Corps.

Job description

Overview

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is a mission‑driven organization focused on preventing homelessness and creating lasting solutions. The role of Medical Assistant (MA) in our Recuperative Care/Medical Respite program supports a multidisciplinary health‑care team through patient care and administrative duties.

Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care, including taking vital signs, assessing patients, and performing patient assessments within the scope of education and training.
  • Collaborate with medical assistants, primary care providers, behavioral health providers, psychiatric providers, peer specialists, dental staff, pharmacists, patient navigators, case managers, client access representatives, inventory and lab coordinators, and nurse educators.
  • Check in patients and work closely with the health‑care team to ensure efficient patient flow and effective use of clinic resources.
  • Obtain specimens and perform laboratory tests such as urinalysis, urine HCG, hematocrits, glucose tests, etc.
  • Perform venipuncture and prepare blood and other specimens for transport to the central lab; process labs as needed after hours or at satellite sites.
  • Conduct screening tests including pulse oximetry, peak flow analysis, EKG, ophthalmoscope examinations, and other assessments.
  • Administer immunizations according to clinic protocol and enter data into the CIIS (Colorado Immunization Information System).
  • Contact clients requiring follow‑up for missed appointments or complex care management outreach.
  • Answer the patient assistance line and handle inquiries within MA scope, transferring calls to other disciplines when appropriate.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as copying, faxing, word processing, data entry, and maintaining clinic files that meet legal, auditing, and grantor requirements.
  • Assist providers and nurses with examinations, procedures, and other direct patient‑care tasks (e.g., chaperoning pap smears, preparing procedure trays).
  • Work evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed; hours may include overnight shifts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant program preferred.
  • Certification in basic life support (CPR) required.
  • Valid driver’s license required (waiver possible based on experience and role needs).
  • Bi‑lingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Completion of internal credentialing and privileging process prior to start date.
