Responsibilities include sterile technique, instrument processing, and intraoperative support. Prior OR experience is nuanced by program completion; excellent teamwork is essential to ensure patient safety and efficient OR operations.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program is preferred.
• No prior operating room experience required for graduates of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• A minimum of six (6) months of operating room experience required for candidates who have not completed an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Knowledge of sterile techniques, infection prevention practices and OR protocols.
• Proficiency in handling surgical instruments, equipment and supplies.
• Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and provide timely assistance during procedures.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms for procedures and ensure instruments, equipment and supplies are available and functioning.
• Assist with preparation of instruments and supplies for scheduled cases.
• Establish and maintain the sterile field according to protocols.
• Assist with patient draping and preparation for procedures.
• Provide sterile instruments, sutures and supplies to surgeons during procedures.
• Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
• Report breaks in sterile techniques.
• Clean, disinfect and sterilize instruments and equipment.
• Operate sterilization equipment and maintain records.
• Ensure instruments and supplies are stored properly and available for procedures.
• Assist with OR cleaning and turnover between cases.
• Support routine OR activities including inventory coordination.
