Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is seeking a part‑time registered optician to provide high‑quality training and education for students in the School of Optometry’s optical shop, 10 Optical. The role is 27 hours per week with on‑site requirements.

The position involves patient education, order processing, insurance verification, billing posting, and assisting with interns and laboratory instruction, including use of edging equipment.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts Dispensing Optician License required.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in Optical management with supervisory responsibilities.
• Experience with third‑party payers and vision care plans (e.g., VSP, Eyemed, Spectera, MassHealth).
• Experience with electronic health records, inventory management systems, and ordering platforms.
• Excellent customer service abilities.
• Teaching/training experience preferred.
• Flexible schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; may cover 10 Optical.

Responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality training and education for students in the optical shop.
• Process daily patient orders in a timely manner.
• Verify insurance or vision care coverage for optical products and services.
• Oversee collection of patient payments, and posting of charges and payments in the system.
• Assist with activities of student interns when needed.
• Assist with instruction of laboratory functions including edging equipment.
• Keep current details on vision care plans and other third‑party payers.
• Help with inventory management and control.
• Operate edging equipment as needed.
