Job summary

Syracuse University is seeking Part-Time Writing Consultants for Open Writing Consultant sections in Fall 2025. These positions offer either 5 hours (1.5 credit) or 10 hours (3 credits) per week, depending on availability and need. Prior experience in SU Writing Center is strongly preferred.

The department emphasizes one-to-one student support in-person and online, with some afternoon/evening/weekend hours. Current internal applicants receive priority consideration.

• Prior experience as a Writing Consultant required.
• Experience in the Writing Center at Syracuse University is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Consultants will help students one-to-one in the WC and online, visit classrooms, and develop workshops; some afternoon/evening/weekend hours required.
• Consultants assist students to: interpret an assignment sheet, discuss ideas for a project, plan for a paper; reconsider choices regarding audience, focus, reasoning, or organization; acquire research strategies and apply proper documentation; improve editing and proofreading skills.
