Syracuse University is seeking a Part-Time Faculty member to teach ENG 300 Creative Writing Selected Topics on campus for the fall 2026 semester. Start date is 8/17/2026 with the first class on 8/24/2026. The hiring rate will be determined based on per-credit history within the department. Internal applicants receive priority consideration.

The position is on-campus with a commitment to in-person instruction and payment determined by the department's per-credit rate history.

Qualifications

  • MFA in Creative Writing.
  • Experience teaching in higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and update a class syllabus.
  • Order appropriate books and materials in advance of the start date.
  • Prepare lectures, projects and other student assignments.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
  • Present instruction based on the class competencies and performance levels.
  • Meet all designated class periods and reschedule if needed with notice to the chair.
  • Work with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
  • Submit completed final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Complete all other course-related duties as outlined by the department.
