Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking an Oncology Research Nurse for part-time, 20 hours per week. This role delivers professional nursing care through assessment, planning, and evaluation within oncology settings.

Responsibilities include patient assessments, IV therapy, chemotherapy/biotherapy knowledge, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams to meet care needs. LN/BSN pathways and licensure requirements are outlined in the posting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• ADN required; BSN preferred with plan to complete within 5 years.
• Minimum 1 year med-surg/acute care experience.
• Oncology nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs primary and secondary patient assessments and documents in the medical record accurately and timely.
• Documents changes and omissions of the identified plan.
• Communicates systematic report to other care providers.
• Coordinates care delivery; utilizes resources to promote the continuum of care.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skill in all aspects of IV therapy and hydration.
• Employs strategies to promote health in a safe environment.
• Evaluates and documents progress toward the attainment of outcomes.
• Identifies expected interventions and outcomes for an individualized plan of care and communicates effectively with patient, family and other team members.
• Implements the plan of care in a safe, timely and appropriate manner.
• Manages patient care based on knowledge of cancer, cancer treatment, and side effects of such treatment.
• Uses quality and evidence based practice to deliver and improve care.
• Works closely with more experienced clinicians for guidance and supervision.
• Infusion/Treatment Depts: demonstrates knowledge and skills in chemotherapy/biotherapy and blood products.
• Radiation Oncology Depts: demonstrates knowledge of radiation therapies and procedures, including side effect and symptom managment.
• Demonstrates ability to triage patients and coordinate with provider to ensure care needs are met.
• Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
