Job Summary
Westmark School is currently seeking an exceptional Music Teacher to join our team in mid-August 2025. The position is part-time, two half days per week. The ideal candidate will be an important member of a dedicated team of educators who collaborate in developing the Lower Division Music curriculum while fostering a love for music in students in Grades 2 through Grade 5. The Music Teacher enjoys collaborating with colleagues.
The Lower School Music Teacher is a seasoned music educator who has experience working with students with learning differences. Additionally, Westmark seeks an individual who has certification in Orff and Kodaly methodologies with familiarity with or certification in Dalcroze Eurhythmics.
Responsibilities
- Create and foster a love of music in students while teaching the fundamental skills of music.
- Provide lesson plans, unit and course organizers, and participate in all curricular initiatives.
- Adhere to the guidelines and standards from the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME) and help to develop the music curriculum and benchmarks at Westmark.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop cross-curricular learning experiences.
- Develop curriculum and provide instruction following Universal Design for Learning Principles, specifically catered to students with learning differences.
- Integrate technology into the curriculum following best practices.
- Develop a curriculum that reflects the School’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
- Plan, organize, and provide music performances in the Lower Division.
- Communicate with families about student progress.
- Use behavior management systems that are effective with students with language-based learning differences.
- Communicate with parents, colleagues, and the Division Directors regarding students’ behaviors, academic concerns, and academic progress.
- Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the community.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education required; Master’s Degree in Music Education preferred; A Multiple or Clear California Teaching Credential Preferred
- Classroom teaching experience, preferably in teaching General Music to elementary school students.
- Keyboard skills sufficient to accompany student performances.
- Experience with technology, specifically iPads, Macs, SMART Technologies, and Finale.
- Strong organization and time-management skills.
- Strong desire to be part of a collaborative team.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
