Job summary

The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Museum seeks a part-time Museum Security Officer to ensure safety and a welcoming environment. You will patrol galleries, assist visitors, and enforce museum rules during tours and events.

The role emphasizes customer service, emergency response, and collection protection while supporting campus operations. A high school diploma or GED and prior customer service experience are required; CPR/AED training is provided as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication and dependable.
• 1 year of customer service experience required.
• Previous security or related work preferred.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• CPR/AED certification may be completed through museum training.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine protection of galleries, visitors, and groups by continuous patrols and informing visitors of museum rules.
• Assist visitors with questions, wayfinding, and directing them to appropriate staff.
• Protect the collection by communicating safety rules and reporting missing or damaged artwork.
• Escort contractors to ensure they are operating within safety guidelines.
• Respond to emergencies, assist evacuations, and call for help when needed.
• Attend required training and participate in ongoing learning.
