Job summary

Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) seeks a part-time Museum Security Officer to create a positive and welcoming experience by assisting visitors, and ensuring the safety and security of the Museum’s property by conducting continuous patrols of the premises. The RISD Museum emphasizes inclusion and safety while protecting its art collection.

The role requires excellent customer service, strong communication, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills and dependability.
• Must have demonstrated customer service skills.
• Minimum of one year customer service experience in a service-oriented environment required.
• Previous security or related work experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Required to obtain a CPR/AED course completion through training provided by the Museum.

Responsibilities

• Museum Safety: Provide routine protection of galleries, visitors, and groups by continuous tours and informing visitors of rules.
• Customer Service: Answer routine questions and assist with wayfinding and inquiries about events and exhibitions.
• Collection Safety: Protect the collection by communicating safety rules and reporting missing or damaged artwork.
• Visitor Escort: Escort contractors and ensure compliance with safety guidelines.
• Emergency Response: Ensure safety during incidents and assist with evacuations and shelter procedures.
• Training: Attend required training, including sessions outside regular hours.
