Responsibilities

• Enforce provisions of 780 CMR, 521 CMR, and city ordinances for construction activities.
• Answer questions on construction methods, location, use, occupancy, and maintenance.
• Receive applications and issue permits for construction and related work.
• Inspect premises with issued permits and enforce 780 CMR compliance.
• Issue notices or orders to ensure compliance with 780 CMR.
• Inspect and investigate zoning issues as assigned by the building commissioner.
• Assist applicants with forms and requirements.
• Review permit applications and plans for completeness and code compliance.
• Issue building permits in a timely manner.
• Schedule and perform on-site inspections of building projects.
• Schedule and perform 110.7 periodic inspections of businesses and institutions.
• Keep up with relevant code changes.
• Maintain records and information accessibly.
• Provide customer service in person, by phone, by email, or other means.
• Perform similar or related work as required.
• Present yourself in a courteous and professional manner.
