The role focuses on specimen preparation, DNA/RNA extraction, and quantification, with initial ~15 hours per week and potential for more as volume grows. Ideal candidates have molecular biology training, hands-on extraction experience, and careful adherence to SOPs and documentation.

Qualifications

• Degree or formal training in molecular biology, biotechnology, or clinical laboratory sciences.
• Hands-on DNA/RNA extraction experience.
• Strong micro pipetting skills and handling biological specimens.
• Experience with KingFisher or automated magnetic-bead purification.
• Experience with DNA quantification using Qubit or similar.
• Familiarity with clinical specimens, accessioning and sample tracking.
• Knowledge of contamination-control practices in molecular labs.
• California CLS designation/licensure is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and follow detailed procedures.

Responsibilities

• Receive, accession, label and track human clinical specimens.
• Perform DNA/RNA extraction and purification.
• Quantify extracted DNA using Qubit or similar methods.
• Prepare reagents, buffers, consumables and sample plates.
• Maintain accurate sample-tracking and laboratory records.
• Follow SOPs, quality-control requirements and contamination-prevention practices.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and clean work areas.
• Document specimen discrepancies, equipment issues and procedural deviations.
