Job summary

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) seeks a Research Laboratory Technician to conduct molecular and cellular biology research, including tissue culture, DNA/RNA/protein extraction, and data collection and analysis.

The successful candidate will engage in laboratory research using innovative techniques and contribute to a collaborative biomedical research environment in Kalamazoo.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess a BS/BA or MS in Biology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or related discipline.
• Desirable but not required skills include sterile tissue culture, RNA/protein extraction, gel electrophoresis, ELISA, immunofluorescent imaging, Western blotting, and PCR.

Responsibilities

• Communicates problems or matters of a scientific, technical, and/or administrative nature.
• Maintains accurate records of tests, results, data, including calculations from data and statistics.
• Responsible for inventory maintenance at each bench assignment.
• Performs a variety of molecular and cellular biology assays using tissue cultures and tissue extracts (e.g., Western blotting, ELISA, RT-PCR).
• Prepares stock solutions and reagents.
• Maintains a clean, efficient work area and replenishes supplies as needed.
• All other duties as assigned.
