Job summary

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) seeks a Forensic Autopsy Technician in Kalamazoo, MI. The role prepares bodies for postmortem exams, assists pathologists, and supports cadaver handling and lab workflows.

You will manage proofs, chain of custody, and specimen handling while maintaining strict safety and sanitation standards. Weekend/on-call availability and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or two years of college in a scientific field preferred.
• Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology preferred.
• Experience labeling, managing, organizing, and shipping samples preferred.
• Experience operating cassette and slide printing equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate workload to meet deadlines and prepare necessary paperwork and tools.
• Receive, identify and transfer decedents with chain-of-custody according to NAME standards.
• Perform postmortem radiography and assist with dental radiography as needed.
• Document examination findings, photographs and belongings with proper labeling.
• Maintain morgue cleanliness and daily cooler inventory logs.
