Job summary

University of Iowa in Iowa City is seeking a part-time Laboratory Technician II to perform a variety of laboratory tasks including specimen processing, supply distribution, and clerical duties. The role provides supervisory support to laboratory assistants and follows a first shift from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

The Department of Pathology is part of UI Health Care, a renowned health sciences center serving Iowa and beyond.

Qualifications

• Two years of related laboratory experience including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience.
• Desirable MLA(ASCP) certification or eligible.
• Experience handling patient specimens is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Admits Microbiology specimens to laboratory for processing and microbiological analysis.
• Processes specimens for microbiologic analysis.
• Responds to incoming telephone calls.
• Monitors and maintains weekly media inventory.
• Processes hazardous biological waste material for disposal.
• Performs cleaning and maintenance of laboratory admitting area and laboratory equipment therein.
