Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant II for our Oxford Urgent Care clinic. You will perform clinical tasks such as vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, injections, and basic exams, while also handling clerical duties like scheduling and EMR data entry.

Under licensed supervision, you will ensure patient flow, maintain supplies, and assist with insurer pre-authorizations and billing support. This role requires a MA credential and BLS, with opportunity for flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current BLS or Heart Saver certification from the American Heart Association within 3 months of hire.
• Medical Assistant credential approved by the Massachusetts Department of Health (ARMA, NHA, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to examination rooms and record vital signs (BP, temp, height, weight).
• Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, and point-of-care tests per clinic standards.
• Prepare and administer non-intravenous injections as directed.
• Assist in routine physical examinations or clinical procedures.
• Review labs and promptly notify physicians of abnormal results.
• Communicate observations to licensed clinicians per guidelines.
• Set up rooms and maintain/clean equipment and instruments.
• Sterilize and repack instruments as required.
• Assist with moving/positioning patients and ensure safety.
• Manage appointment flow and patient admissions/discharges.
• Manage supplies and inventory; initiate re-supply requisitions.
• Maintain medical records and input/retrieve data in EMR.
• Process prescriptions/refills per procedure and coordinate with insurers.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Current BLS/Heart Saver (American Heart Association)

Medical Assistant credential (MA Dept of Health approved)
