Job summary

The City of Valdez is seeking a creative Marketing & Communications Specialist to support program promotion and front desk operations. This temporary role is about 30 hours per week, typically Monday–Friday, 1–7 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends.

Applicants must upload a portfolio of design work; those without portfolios will not be considered. The position opens until filled with ongoing review of candidates.

Qualifications

• Experience in graphic design, marketing, communications, customer service, recreation, or a related field.
• Proficiency with Canva or similar software.
• Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
• Valid driver’s license; CPR/AED and First Aid certification within one month of hire (if required).

Responsibilities

• Create flyers, graphics, signage, and social media content using Canva.
• Manage and schedule Facebook posts and ads.
• Assist with design and production of the tri-annual Activity Guide.
• Gather program details and maintain branding consistency.
• Provide front desk customer service and assist with registrations, rentals, inquiries.
• Assist with events, outreach, and general office tasks.
