Qualifications

The City of Valdez is hiring a creative and organized Marketing & Communications Specialist to support program promotion and front desk operations. This temporary role works about 30 hours per week, typically Monday - Friday, 1 - 7 p.m..

This position is open until filled, review of candidates is ongoing.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Create flyers, social media graphics, signage, and other promotional materials using Canva.


• Create and schedule Facebook content and advertisements for Department programs and events.


• Assist with the design, layout, editing, and production of the tri-annual Activity Guide.


• Gather program information, photos, and content from Department staff.


• Maintain consistent Department branding across marketing materials.


• Provide front desk customer service in person, by phone, and electronically.


• Assist with program registration, facility rentals, cash handling, and general customer questions.


• Assist with Department programs, events, and community outreach as needed.


• Perform general office duties and maintain program and facility records.


• Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.


• Comply with City and Department policies and procedures.


• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics

• Experience with Canva or similar graphic design software.


• Beginner to intermediate knowledge of graphic design, layout, and marketing.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
