Part-Time Marine Technician - City Cruises - NYC

City Experiences is seeking a Part-Time Marine Technician for our City Cruises operation in New York.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences’ RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

The Marine Technician is responsible for carrying out daily duties such as repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting marine diesel engines, generators, transmissions, drive trains, HVAC, plumbing, pumps, holding tanks, and electrical equipment.

The right person will be skilled, self-motivated, adaptable, and embody Hornblower’s RESPECT SERVICE SYSTEM.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working safely, methodically, and consistently, mostly independently under the guidance of the Port Engineer.
  • Maintaining accurate records and using maintenance software (HELM) for preventative and corrective maintenance, work reports, documentation, and inventory control.
  • Ensuring all work complies with US Coast Guard regulations and marine best practices.
  • Performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on vessel equipment including diesel engines, propulsion gear, electrical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, HVAC, alarm systems, galley equipment, and interior finishes.
  • Maintaining watertight integrity and structural fire protection boundaries.
  • Managing pollution prevention and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Coordinating vessel readiness with inspections, schedules, and site visits.
  • Managing outside vendors and leading crew members as directed.
  • Maintaining a safe, organized work environment and promoting safety practices.
  • Identifying parts and spares needs and assisting procurement.
  • Responding to service calls at various locations, including remote work during drydock or layups.
  • Working shifts as assigned, including weekends and evenings.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Training and experience in marine maintenance and repair, with expertise in areas such as diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, HVAC, or related fields.
  • Possession of a valid TWIC or ability to obtain one.
  • Knowledge to oversee outside contractors and perform hands-on maintenance.
  • Proven maintenance and repair experience in marine or facilities environments.
  • Ability to interact professionally with passengers, crew, and vendors.
  • USCG Engineer’s License or relevant experience is desirable.
  • Basic computer skills and effective communication in English.
  • Physical ability to lift over 50 lbs., work in tight spaces, and in various weather conditions.
  • Proper safety gear use and proficiency with hand and power tools.
  • HS Diploma or GED, and a valid driver’s license.
