Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh is hiring Lifeguards for mornings, afternoons, and weekends. The Lifeguard ensures safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas while fostering a safe and engaging environment for members.

Key responsibilities include active surveillance, strict adherence to safety rules, immediate emergency response per YMCA procedures, and required record-keeping. Opportunities exist to teach Red Cross lifeguard courses and group or private swim lessons.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 15 years.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen required.
• Lifeguard certification must be current and in good standing.
• Willing to take Red Cross lifeguard course if not certified and eligible for reimbursement after 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Responds to emergencies immediately following YMCA policies and the Safe-in-Six model.
• Maintains records and completes required reports.
• Instructs lifeguarding classes under the Red Cross platform when needed.
• Willing to instruct group and private swim lessons as required.
