Job summary

City of North Las Vegas is seeking a part-time lifeguard for Skyview Multi-Generational Center to safeguard swimmers and provide first aid as needed.

The position requires minimum age 16, completion of lifeguard training with First Aid/CPR, and the ability to work early mornings through holidays. The hourly pay is $16, with no health benefits for this temporary role, and assignments may shift.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

Part-Time/Temporary Position – This position is a part time/temporary position and DOES NOT include health or medical benefits. Hours for this position will not exceed 938 per calendar year.

Pay Considerations – The hourly pay for this position is $16.00.

Work Schedule – The selected candidate must be available to work 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. shifts on any day of the week, including evenings, weekends, overtime, standby assignments, and holidays as required by department operations.

Environment –

• The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold: No effective protection from weather.
• The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
• The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals, walking, and working on slippery and uneven surfaces.
• The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
• The worker is exposed to infectious diseases or other possible infectious materials.

Work Location – Skyview Multi-Generational Center, located at: 3050 E. Centennial Parkway North Las Vegas, NV 89081. Please note that, beginning in May 2027, your assigned work location at Skyview may change based on the department’s operational needs.

THE ROLE

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

SELECTION PROCESS

1. Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
2. The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process.
3. Oral board interview (Pass/Fail)
4. Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history check via submission of fingerprints; drug screening; and a Child Abuse & Neglect Registry clearance for applicants 18 years of age or above. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.
5. Swim Skills Assessment (Pass/Fail) – This test evaluates your comfort and ability in deep water. Candidates will be assessed on:

• Swimming
• Surface dives
• Treading water
• Weight retrieval
