The City of Coronado is seeking a Part-time Pool Lifeguard I to supervise swimmers, enforce pool rules, perform water rescues, and provide emergency care as needed. Training and licensing are required within three months of appointment, including CPR/AED, First Aid, and Lifeguard Training.
Applicants must be at least 16 years old and able to work extended hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

This is a part-time, temporary (not to exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year) position that does not include benefits.

Under general supervision, to ensure the safety of swimmers and enforce regulations; to observe and supervise the activities of patrons in the pool and surrounding area; to protect life, prevent accidents and rescue swimmers in emergency situations; to prepare lesson plans and assist or conduct instructional swimming or water safety classes for children and adults; to assist in the maintenance of facilities and equipment; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. May lead the work of subordinate lifeguards.
The following tasks are typical for positions in these classifications. Any single position may not perform all of these tasks and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.
Lifeguarding Licenses and Certifications are not prerequisites for applying. All applicants must successfully complete a nationally certified training program to obtain a Lifeguard License and the following Certifications (CPR/AED and First Aid) before aquatic work assignments. Training and licensing will be provided after hire. Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years of age.

Applicants who meet the employment standards listed in this job announcement will be required to take an in-water swim and skills test and perform CPR on a manikin. An oral interview will be conducted at the time of the skills test. Tryouts and interviews will be held as needed.

Incumbents must perform work in an efficient, effective, and timely manner with minimal direction.
Incumbents are required to perform emergency lifesaving functions and water rescues which include swimming; administering first aid, CPR and AED; lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, or other physical labor related to the maintenance of pool facilities.
Vision sufficient to distinguish objects at a distance of no less than 100 yards and operate assigned equipment.
Incumbents are required to work at an outdoor public pool and are exposed to inclement weather conditions or potentially hazardous chemicals; work in water.
Incumbents may be required to work extended hours including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends. Incumbents may be required to travel outside City boundaries to attend meetings.
