Job summary

The Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library is seeking a part-time Public Services Specialist with strong customer service, organization, and initiative to connect our community through literacy and learning.

You will assist customers in person, by phone, and online, deliver programs and manage displays, and support information and technology needs while promoting library services. This role requires reliability and flexible hours.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Combination of customer service and/or post-secondary education to total three years.
• Valid Kansas Driver’s License with insurable driving record.
• Three years of customer service experience.
• Multilanguage fluency in English and at least one other language.
• Knowledge of learning resources such as databases, print and online resources.
• Research skills such as critical thinking and analysis.
• Interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work with diverse populations.
• Ability to work scheduled hours, arrive promptly and maintain regular attendance.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high quality customer service by assisting customers with library materials, digital resources, technology equipment, information needs or other services.
• Instruct customers on how to locate, reserve, and check out materials; register for services; troubleshoot issues.
• Plan and present in-person and virtual programs to the public individually or as part of a team.
• Maintain prompt arrival and efficiently maintain scheduled hours.
