Job summary

City of Houston’s Neighborhood Libraries are seeking Part-time Customer Service Clerks to join our Customer Experience team. You will greet patrons, assist with library services, explain policies, help with basic technology, and guide users to materials.

You will work about 20 hours per week, including one weekday evening and Saturdays; fluency in diverse communities is valued; six months clerical experience required; a high school diploma or GED is required, with substitution possible using an

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• Six months of clerical or customer service experience required.
• An Associate’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree may substitute for the education and experience requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers at the service desk with information and library materials.
• Help patrons with library services, policies, resources, and basic technology.
• Troubleshoot computer issues and aid with public computers.
• Retrieve, sort, and shelve library materials according to procedures.
• Support library programming and community outreach for all ages.
• Provide genealogical reference assistance in person, by email, and on the phone.
• Instruct on family history resources including online sources and microfilm.
• Work at least one evening per week and every Saturday; Sundays at locations open.
