Job summary

The E.C. Scranton Memorial Library in Madison, CT is seeking a customer service oriented Circulation Clerk to handle check in/out, registration, holds, and inquiries. The role emphasizes accurate, friendly service to patrons of all ages and requires good computer skills and knowledge of library resources.

The position supports multiple service desks as needed. Hours are part-time with a 19.5-hour weekly schedule; the library offers holidays and accrual PTO.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (college preferred)
• Computer skills, including keyboarding; basic knowledge of MS Word and Excel; familiarity with the Library’s online catalog, website, databases, and other electronic resources
• Capacity to perform detailed work consistently and accurately
• Ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with the public, including upset patrons
• Experience with III Sierra ILS, a plus

Responsibilities

• Check in and check out materials
• Register new patrons and provide orientation information
• Find and process holds and notify patrons when they are available
• Assist patrons in person and over the phone
• Collect fines for lost or damaged materials
• Perform other Circulation activities as assigned
• Help cover other service desks as needed
