Job summary

Frederick County Public Libraries (FCPL) invites applications for a para-professional pool position. The role delivers comprehensive library services, supports desk operations and assists patrons with information resources and e-content, technology, and programming.

Selected candidates will staff branches in various locations, work 18 hours weekly, and may be assigned to different libraries. Training and support are provided; a pending budget and reassignment may affect openings.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of work experience providing customer service to the public.
• High school graduation or the equivalent; substitutions: Associate’s Degree.
• Knowledge of public library practices and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide strong customer service at the desk and assist with check-in/check-out of materials.
• Assist patrons with information questions, reader's advisory, and using library technologies.
• Help patrons use computerized and print information sources and direct to appropriate sources.
• Maintain knowledge of branch collections and resources and current literature.
• Present pre-planned programs for children, teens and adults as needed.
• Circulate materials and perform basic clerical duties related to circulation.
• May perform Passport Acceptance Agent duties and Notary duties.
• Attend related workshops and meetings; perform other duties as required.
