Job summary

Milton Keynes City Council is seeking a part-time Library Assistant to join our Public Libraries team, working five hours per week on Saturdays from 9.00am to 2.00pm. The role is site-based, with DBS checks and a requirement for a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

You'll provide frontline customer service, assist with story times and community events, and help residents access library resources and digital services while maintaining a welcoming environment.

Qualifications

• Frontline customer service experience.
• Ability to engage with residents across the community.
• Strong literacy and numeracy demonstrated by GCSEs or relevant experience.
• Competent with Microsoft Office and digital systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide frontline customer service at library service points.
• Support activities such as story times and community events.
• Promote library services and build positive relationships with residents.
• Advise customers on library materials and digital resources.
• Maintain a welcoming, safe environment for customers and colleagues.
• Work flexibly across library locations and assist service delivery.
