Job summary

The City of Santa Maria is seeking an Assistant Library Technician to support patrons at the Guadalupe and Orcutt Branch Libraries. This part-time, up to 19 hours per week role emphasizes customer service, information access, and hands-on help with library resources.

Responsibilities include assisting with the catalog, circulation, homework support, program activities, and occasional tours. Prior library experience and bilingual skills are preferred; evening and weekend shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• Must have experience in a library or information services environment.
• Associate degree or higher or current student status per job posting.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the public with locating items and information, including library cards and access to e-materials.
• Assist children with homework and support Homework Center activities.
• Perform front desk and cashiering duties, including check-in/check-out and fines processing.
• Conduct library tours and programming; maintain databases and files.
• Demonstrate regular attendance and dependable work habits.
