Job summary

The Hoboken Public Library in Hoboken, New Jersey, seeks a Part-Time Library Assistant to support operations with 25 hours per week in-person across daytime, evening, and weekend shifts.

You will assist patrons, charge and discharge materials, repair items as needed, help navigate the online catalog, shelve materials, and participate in opening and closing procedures. This Civil Service position requires residency in NJ.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to learn and adapt to Polaris/Leap ILS and other library systems.
• Flexibility to work daytime, evening, and weekend shifts at all locations.
• Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable.
• Previous library work is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide outstanding customer service by assisting patrons and locating materials.
• Charge and discharge library materials, inspect for damage, and perform repairs as needed.
• Assist patrons with the online catalog and direct them to shelves.
• Participate in opening and closing procedures at multiple branch locations.
• Shelve materials, shift books as needed, and conduct inventory.
• Assist with inter-library loan processes to expand resources for patrons.
• Enter patron information into the Polaris/Leap ILS and verify details.
• Record usage statistics and support overall library organization.
• Perform other duties to support library operations.
