Part‑Time Lecturer - Student Teaching Supervisor

Office Location: The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, 1201 W. University Drive, MASS Building 2nd Floor, Edinburg, TX 78539.

Office Hours: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Position Overview

We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s student body as a Part‑Time Lecturer – Student Teaching Supervisor of Teaching and Learning in the 2025-2026 academic year.

The Department of Teaching & Learning occasionally hires Part‑Time Lecturers to supervise teachers for undergraduate teacher preparation programs for Fall 2025 through Spring 2026 Semester.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver quality instruction within the respective programs.
  • Provide guidance and support of the clinical teacher and cooperating teacher during school hours (8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.).
  • Observe, assess, and evaluate clinical teachers during school hours.
  • Communicate and provide feedback to clinical teachers and cooperating teachers.
  • Participate in all clinical teaching program assessments.
  • Complete and collect all required documentation.
  • Support cooperating teachers in completion of required performance evaluations, time log approvals, candidate dispositions, etc.
  • Maintain open and continuous communication with the Office of Field Experiences.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience in PK‑12 schools.
  • Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction, Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, or another teacher‑related field from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of students from all populations.
  • Knowledge of state curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy standards.
  • Current certification in the class in which supervision is provided.
  • Accomplished educator as shown by student learning and conscientious meeting of deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction, Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, or another teacher‑related field from an accredited institution.
  • University teaching and supervisory experience.
  • Experience with field‑based teacher education.
  • Experience with implementation of instructional technology, including online platforms such as Brightspace and/or TK20.
  • Current Texas Administrative Certification (principal or superintendent) preferred.
Salary

Part‑time Lecturers are paid per course taught commensurate with experience and/or qualifications.

Additional Information

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. The position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
