Part-time Lecturer, Bioinformatics (Boston)
About the Opportunity
Job Summary

Individuals are sought to teach graduate courses in science andtechnology relevant to the bioinformatics field. Courses includeprimarily biological science courses with minor algorithmiccomponents and primarily programming courses with a focus onbioinformatics methods. Such graduate courses seek experiencedbioinformatics, biotech, and data science professionals with adesire to teach for the Bioinformatics Professional ScienceMaster's (PSM) Program depending upon the programs' needs andenrollment.

Key Responsibilities
  • review and learn key teaching points within existing instructorguides;
  • be willing to support high-quality teaching and standardsthrough preparation of lectures based on course materialsprovided;
  • facilitate rich respectful debates and discussions in anin-person or online class;
  • provide timely review and grading of assignments withappropriate coaching and feedback to the students;
  • consistently connect with students and their performance;
  • contribute to the program's curriculum development efforts;and
  • adhere to Northeastern's policies.

Part-time instructors work under the direction of the director withsupport from a faculty lead and will hold office hours asappropriate.

Qualifications
  • PhD in bioinformatics, biology, or a closely relatedfield.
  • Experience with the application of computational methods tobiological problems.
  • Either prior experience in teaching or more than 3 years ofexperience in course-relevant industry or academic work isrequired.
  • Proven platform skills required, as in an open, supportivepersonal style willing to receive assistance and coaching whenneeded from the faculty lead.
  • Prior experience in a diverse higher education institutionpreferred.
  • Knowledge of Python and/or R programming languages is stronglyrecommended.
