Job summary

The Delaware County Juvenile/Probate Court in Ohio is seeking a part-time/intermittent Law Clerk to assist the Judge and Magistrates in the Probate and Juvenile Divisions. The position involves researching and drafting court documents and decisions, with an expected 10-20 hours per week and a start date of 01/02/2027.

A writing sample is required for consideration, and the successful candidate will have strong research, analysis, and communication skills, plus knowledge of pertinent court rules

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled as a second or third year law student.
• Knowledge of local court rules, Rules of Evidence, Rules for Superintendence of the Courts, the Ohio Revised Code, Administrative Code, Rules of Juvenile, Civil and Criminal Procedure, Federal rules and regulations, etc.
• Ability to analyze cases law affecting cases and legal issues pending before the Court.
• Ability to evaluate cases according to the facts and applicable law.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Superior ability to perform legal research.
• Superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients and customers with widely varied levels of education and competence and individuals who may be upset, distraught, irate, emotionally or mentally or otherwise unable to function within reasonable range of constructive behaviors.
• Demonstrated integrity, reliability and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to operate database systems, create spreadsheets and use word processing programs; and
• Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License, have an acceptable driving record and no criminal record.
